Imac 2011 SSD upgrade by a newbie

Mijn probleem

I was a bit disapointed by the performance of my 1 year old Imac, I could not stand anymore to see all my app icons jumping for 5 seconds before I could do anything...

Mijn oplossing

I am far from being an hardware expert, I used to do some RAM upgrade back in my PC days but that's it. You will read everywhere on the internet that this operation takes about 90 minutes... well it took me 3 hours.

Along with the Ifixit kit I bought a 64G SSD from crucial(I had to update it afterward to enable the trim function)

Mijn advies

I am not good at doing these kind of stuff but in the end I managed to do what I wanted. Everything is working just fine now but I had a few moments of despair. Be extremely cautious when unplugging the screen from the motherboard, the video wire connector is VERY difficult (for me) to plug back.

I also struggled a lot to put back the motherboard in it's right place.

The software part was also challenging (use of terminal to create symbolic links)

I struggled quite a bit but the performance boost worth it.

check the tutorials on you tube it was very helpful.
