Looked like fun! Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Why did we decide that updating my daughter's MAC instead of buying a new one just because the screen cracked and she couldn't download movies? Look at the photo of trashed computers. Everyone need to learn to repair and recycle.

Mijn oplossing

Replacing the hard drive is simple, the LCD screen-not so. Overall, the computer has a great screen and lots of memory. Daughter left before I could take a photo.

First, the video starts with the display detached. OK, that’s another 90 steps on a different video. The amount of screws and parts that fall out and break without warning, make this almost unbearable. The keypad will not fit nice and close after the repair if the little plastic pieces break. I had 6 little white pieces-smaller than a grain of rice, break off from somewhere. We have to be very careful when opening it to assure the magnets don’t pull on the key board. Next time, I’d pay the $100 to have someone else spend their 4 hours doing this and go for a bike ride. Maybe they won't break the plastic. Apple-really-this should be a lot easier!

I also did not use MJ’s suggestion of the egg carton. Big mistake ! If you don’t do that, be sure to place the screws on something sticky in numerical order. I tried to place them around the desk in a layout format. When I turned over the magnetic MAC all of the screws went flying onto the computer-out of order.
