Replacing damaged hard drive in a 15in macbook pro
5 - 30 minuten
Old HD died when laptop was dropped. Apple wouldnt cover it, insurance wouldnt cover it, and considering it was brand new and NZD$3200 worth, it seemed a waste to not attempt a fix!
Went very well. Took me about 20mins to install new drive, however data transfer took me hours. As the old drive was damaged, the data couldnt be recovered. So I actually copied an image of another macbooks OS (using Superduper!) onto the new drive. All tools supplied worked well, and it was very straight forward. Laptop now works well, but I am still in a funny position where I have to find a way to get an original OS on there so that im not breaching apples rules.
Dont drop your laptop! But otherwise, follow the install guides. On a side note, If you are running Lion as an OS, it wont let you install an older version OS instead. Interesting
