iPhone 3GS Battery Replacement

20 - 30 minuten

Mijn probleem

After two year in operation, my phone was not retaining battery charge. After three months form the starting of the problem, even with battery on 100%, after using some software the phone re-boot. Some time it went from 100% to 0% asking to re-charge, and other times, after re-booting it worked a little after die again.

In the beginning, I was thinking that problem was related to IOS 5 update. Latter, when the problem escalated I started to suspect on the Battery. The problem worsened very fast after few months and It was almost impossible to use the phone without a battery-case (DEXIM). First I would like to send the phone to replace the battery, but it would cost me much more than I would like to pay and I would have to send my phone to other city and wait almost one week to take it back. So I decided to replace the battery myself.

The problem? It is hard to find a Battery spare in São José dos Campos SP - Brasil. There is some place that has, but I did not have much reference.

Mijn oplossing

First I would like to thanks everybody who shared information on this site and also to IFIXIT for the very good guide and also shopping experience. First I had a little issue because the system did not accept a billing address different from the shipping one. As this was for safe reason, it is okay. After sending a Fax the order was accepted and everything worked fine.

The repair - I followed the guide step by step, but I still faced some difficult in the beginning. First my display was not getting off, even using the suction cup. Second, after I opened the display, I have problem do disconnect the connector. Before I found the correct way, I removed the label of connector 1 (it did not damaged any thing). After studying the guide and the video, I realized what I was doing wrong. After disconnecting the first connector, the task become easier. I take all the advices posted on this forum, I have prepared the place, I had a Hot Air in place (it was not necessary in my case) and the only other issue I have was that I damaged a little the DO NOT REMOVE tag and I had some difficulty to connect connector 3 (I connected, but did not know if it was enough).

Mijn advies

My Advice? Take some time preparing your self before starting the battery replacement. The first time is not so simple as it seems looking the video and if you damage some thing, it is worse. Also, I recommend the Heavy_duty Spudger. I almost did not use the original one that comes with the kit. Most of the time I used the heavy-duty one.
