Bringing a Refurbished Gas Chromatography System Back to Life

A pharmaceutical quality control laboratory approached us with a Gas Chromatography (GC) system that was experiencing unstable baseline readings, inconsistent retention times, and frequent injector-related errors. The instrument had been out of service for several months, causing delays in routine sample analysis and increasing operational costs. Since purchasing a new GC system would require a substantial investment, the laboratory opted for a complete refurbishment and repair solution.

The refurbishment process began with a comprehensive inspection of the instrument. Several worn consumable parts were identified, including septa, liners, gas filters, and tubing connections. The injector assembly was cleaned and rebuilt, while the detector was serviced and recalibrated. We also replaced aging electronic components showing signs of instability. After reassembly, the gas flow paths were leak-tested and optimized. The instrument software was updated, and multiple performance qualification runs were conducted using standard reference compounds. Following calibration and validation, the system demonstrated excellent repeatability, stable baselines, and accurate peak resolution.
The entire refurbishment process was completed efficiently, allowing the laboratory to resume analytical operations with minimal downtime.
