Battery expanded and Track Pad stopped working. Actually pretty worrisome as it took place in the span of 45 min.
Looked at the guide and really didn't want to take everything out. PLEASE NOTE! - I have been actively repairing Macs since the early 90's so DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THE DANGERS INVOLVED. That said, I unscrewed the back per instructions, unplugged the battery per instructions, and VERY CAREFULLY used the Metal Spudger tool from my iFixit Tool Kit to loosen the battery from the outside in. THIS CAN RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY / COMPUTER AND CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED. I then cleaned any left over adhesive using my fingernail rolling its into small globs and removing. Installed the new battery per instructions and screwed the case together. Good to go!
Please don't try this and then blame me if you ruin your computer or set fire to your home. THESE BATTERIES MUST BE RESPECTED. I did this in an area of my home where I could have easily extinguished a fire if one started and understood the possibility of extreme damage to the computer. I balanced these risks and saved a bunch of time and possible damage removing a lot of additional parts and using the adhesive remover.
