The trackpad on my wife's Macbook Pro went south. There were a couple instances of a small amount of water getting down below the surface of the computer and the last time caused the trackpad to bite the dust.
The repair was successful! I was really excited to order my first part from iFixit. The part arrived and it was not at all in prime condition (fingerprint of dye on the trackpad surface itself and a couple crimped cables) but I contacted customer support. had a great email exchange with Matt (title: Obstacle Wrangler...so fun! And he's great at it) who initiated a replacement. The replacement part arrived, I installed it, and it worked perfectly! I'm using the iFixit-provided return label to return the first part. So thankful for a great experience all around. Y'all are great and I'll be back for the next repair! Cheers!
Definitely be patient when working with the tiny fasteners. Might be helpful to have a lightly-magnetized driver set. Make sure to thread the trackpad ribbon cable up into the body of the computer first before setting the trackpad in place. The recommended method of setting the computer on its side during the removing and replacing of the trackpad part was gold, really effective!
