The phone was a gift and, hearing that Apple was lowering their prices, I decided to get a new battery now since the phone is such an old model.
OK-- here goes:
A) Tried multiple times to get an appt at the two closest Apple Stores without luck. So looked online and found iFixIt. Looked like reviews were mainly very good so bought the battery there. When it arrived with all the tools necessary, I took another look at the comments from others who had changed batteries themselves. I figured it would be better to get a pro to do it.
B) I found a local iphone repair man online and from one of his reviews, figured out roughly where to find him. I took off with phone, new battery, and tool kit. He was supposed to be next to a barber shop, couldn't find it, so stopped by a former beauty shop figuring they'd know. Only problem was they're not in that building anymore. What's there now? I stumpled on a marajuana store. Beat a hasty retreat, found a barber shop, went inside next office - stumbled on a SECOND marajuana shop.
C) This approach was more of an adventure than I wanted to pursue, so decided to take the phone to a Staples store for the installation. Installation went fine but killed the iPhone. They had to ship it to Texas and when it was returned, the note said that the battery (yours) was bad. Phone is now working but your battery was the problem.
End of story
