After a Halloween medieval mace incident my iPad required a little screen replacement. What!?! That has never happened to you before?
I did purchase the iOpener kit with my new glass and while many of the tools in there where invaluable, for my particular repair a little creativity and a different heat source made life a lot easier. Replacing an intact glass would probably be very easy using this kit but with my shattered screen the suction cup was useless and the heater would have taken way to long. After prying some of the shatter glass up with a utility knife i used a commercial heat gun to work my way around the perimeter removing glass bits and pieces until it was all gone. I found that if i could get my fingers (or the tweezers) on a piece of the adhesive tape by applying the heat gun (with a narrow directed tip) to the down stream adhesive i could pull long pieces up at a time. I used the picks to pry up new areas of adhesive and continued on like this until it was done. One i had the fractured mess cleaned off the rest of the repair was very straight forward using the repair guide.
If you have shattered glass don't be afraid to improvise. The utility knife worked great for me to get things started but pay attention the guide and where the sensitive components are so you don't cause any damage!
