MacBook Pro (mid-2009) Battery Replacement Success

Mijn probleem

The aging battery on my MacBook was no longer charging and/or not lasting as long as it used to. Also, the trackpad was hard to push, as if something underneath was blocking it. All tell tale signs the battery needed replacing.

Mijn oplossing

After some research, I found this battery was an exact match for my MacBook. Originally, I purchased and tried out an after market battery, but that didn't work out so well. Lesson learned, use original parts on Apple products if possible. The good news is that the after market battery came with the tools I needed to replace the battery. After purchasing a second replacement from iFixit, I used those tools to swap out the battery. It was easy (given I had the tools and experience from the first replacement battery). Took under 10 mins, factoring in taking out the screws of the undercarriage cover, installing the battery, and putting things back together.

Mijn advies

The tools to change the battery are unique. You cannot use a normal screwdriver like you would on a PC based laptop. The screwdriver unique to the battery has a "Y" shaped end, or three-pronged star, depending on how you want to describe it. My advice, if you want to change the battery out of a MacBook, make sure you have the tools. Otherwise, you will have to wait on the project until you can get the tools you require.
