Very easy

Mijn probleem

I found on the web a way to get auto unlock feature (using the apple watch to unlock my mac) working on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina. All that I had to do was change my airport/bluetooth board for the newest one.

Mijn oplossing

I bought Broadcom 94360CS from iFixit and changed it very easily. I had macOS 10.12.3 installed. The wifi worked just out of the box, but the bluetooth was missing, so I went for a fresh install of macOS. Wifi ac, bluetooth and auto unlock working like a charm!

Mijn advies

Just reinstall from scratch.

Does this really works? I’m seriously considering doing this.

So I have successfully installed a 2013 wifi/bt module on my 2012 mbpr 15” and everything was smooth, first boot all working just fine no reinstalls. I use El Capitan so even that there is “ac” available in the wifi info, the "Auto Unlock"is missing and in Settings also there is no option. But this is because ElCapitan may not support the feature. I will install HighSierra to see and I will come back with more info :).

Well, good news, it works. MBPr 2012, 15", with Broadcom 94360CS (wifi/bt module from MBP 2013 via eBay).
