Mijn probleem
My wife dropped her iPhone 4 one too many times and it stopped displaying at all. The phone still worked as we could her sounds when swiping it open or taking screen shots, but no display. Maybe the display connectors just came loose, but if I was going to open the phone to check, it was worth all the way with it.
Mijn oplossing
Went well. Slow and steady does it. It may have taken me a touch longer than it otherwise might have because I actually called in sick today. My wife's old 3gs that I resurrected for her to use until I completed this repair starting showing display issues today, and she was taking the kids out this morning. So sick or not, I had my opportunity with an empty house for a couple hours.
Mijn advies
I am handy around the home, property and vehicles, but that is usually big stuff, not involving screws so tiny it is difficult to see what kind of tool is required to remove them! This project, however, is very attainable. No people allowed in the house. (We have five kids.) Or go somewhere else for the repair - off hours in your office, church, community center, etc. Make sure you have a good open table top and good lighting. I cut out paper circles (2-2.5" diameter) made and taped them into bowl shapes and put a dab of hot glue on the bottom and affixed them to a sheet of paper. The result was a sheet of paper covered with parts bins. I made more of the cups than I thought I would need (based on reviewing the instructions) then labeled them as I added parts to them at each step. For small parts removed (wifi antenna, etc) I put the part right into the cup with the screws. My 12 resulting cup labels are: outside panel screws, battery, sim card, below battery pull tab (longer screw nearest battery), bottom of logic board (top right of speaker), wi-fi antenna, camera, under battery pull tab, stand-off screw, speaker (right side screw), vibrator (long screw on top), display corner screws. I successfully left the 6 display screws in the phone frame (just loose) and easy reattached the new display. Ah, the front-facing camera came loose upon reattaching the new display. Look up the iFixit instructions on replacing the camera to put it and its holder bracket back in place (with tweezers). I do wonder if maybe I should have replaced the battery while I was in there. BUT, replacing the battery would probably take about 10 minutes as it is the first thing you remove when you first open it up.The fixit kit with repair tools is well worth it for a couple of repairs. I certainly would do this again, if I have to. I do prefer that our phones just keep working as is though! Thanks to iFixIt for the great instructions, parts and tools!
