Insert two 8GB Ram chips into late 2012 Mac Mini.

I thought I would try inserting the larger Ram chips. It looked like a simple operation and the cost was reasonable. I felt that I could use this opportunity to enhance the working of my computer.

Mijn oplossing

I tried to do it myself but only succeeded in replacing one of the Ram chips. I had a lot of trouble trying to replace the upper chip, not the lower one. In the end I took the entire assembly, machine and monitor and cables to a local Apple Store and the man at the Genius Bar completed the operation free of charge. Thus I had two 8GB Ram chips successfully installed in my Mac Mini making a total of 16 GB of Ram in use.

However I had damaged the assembly slightly in trying to fit it myself and Apple man gave strict instructions not to tamper with it further lest I damage the logic board and cause major damage.

Mijn advies

I don't think I would attempt that operation on my own again. There was no problem about the compatibility of the chips I bought from IFixit. They work really well and there was no necessity for a refund.
