Saving Wife's iPhone 3GS through battery replacement

Mijn probleem

My Wife's iPhone 3GS would not a hold charge after 75% charge life was left, it would just turn off.

She is holding out for the iPhone 5 & I have no idea when that release will happen. The repair center wanted more than the phone is really worth to replace the battery so I attempted the replacement in an effort to save the labor & mark up cost of the repair center.

Mijn oplossing

The repair was a breeze- less than an hour, the guide was easy to follow & right on. The tools included in the kit were just right, suction cup should be included though.

Mijn advies

1. Read the repair guide & watch the video on the website before starting-the repair guide walks through the connections better that the video.

2. Take your time.

3. Suction cup is a must to remove screen gently.

4. Connector #3, disconnecting & reconnecting needs special attention-look for the small release handle on connector before applying any pressure on the #3 ribbon cable. This connection came loose before I could flip the release handle up, everything I read says that I was doomed but a tech told me as long as I didn't force the connection out it should be ok & it was. The reconnection of this ribbon cable was the hardest part of the install for me. There is no way to hold the ribbon cable to reinsert it, it does take some finesse but it isn't too hard to do.
