iPad 3 Wi-Fi Display Bezel Replacement

Very difficult

Mijn probleem

After years of enjoying the anniversary gift of the iPad 3 that I gave to my wife she fell asleep and dropped the device not once but three times from the bed and as they say "The third time's the charm" the screen cracked at the top bezel.

Even though I bought her a new iPad mini for her birthday, I just needed to repair the iPad 3 because it was her anniversary gift, and also because I had it engraved for her.

Thank goodness I know about iFixit! I ordered the Full front glass/digitizer touch panel assembly, it came with all of the tools needed to do the complete job and that was a huge help.

Mijn oplossing

Repairing an iPad was the biggest pain in the butt imaginable! But in the end it was so worth it! Even though it was only cracked near the top bezel their were glass shards everywhere! I didn't think that I would ever get it cleaned up, but I had a small Dyson nearby to vacuum up.

The only tool that didn't work very well for me was the i opener, thankfully I have a heat gun because it took a tremendous amount of heat to loosen the glue that Apple used to secure the screen.

Mijn advies

The best advice that I can give you is to take your time, take your time, did I mention that you have to take your time?? When you first get into the repair you'll be questioning your sanity for even taking on the repair, but just watch the video a couple of times, read through the repair guide and read through all of the stories from others so that you can learn from our mistakes beforehand. And wear safety glasses!

I can't tell how happy I was to see the glowing Apple logo when I tested it before I sealed it back up.

Just remember to take your time, you'll thank me for it.

Keep on fixing!
