Replaced the logic board in a Powerbook G4, A1095

Mijn probleem

The bottom RAM slot failed and the top slot was beginning to go - every so often it would seem as if there was no memory (caused MASSIVE kernel panics). I was going to tear down the PBG4 and sell off the parts until I read through the iFixit guide and realized I could do repair myself.

Mijn oplossing

The repair actually went very well. I was a little unsure about the thickness of layer of thermal paste to put down, but I just duplicated what I saw on the old logic board as closely as possible. (The Arcticlean was AWESOME - I can't imagine having to scrape away the old thermal paste from the heat sink without it.)

Once I got everything put back together, I found I had a bad sibling link on the hard drive that I couldn't seem to resolve and had to reinstall the OS (but that's neither here not there); once the install was complete the PBG4 ran perfectly.

Mijn advies

An aside - I didn't use the spudgers to open up the PBG4, it's been opened so many times they were unnecessary to open it. The regular spudger was useful in pulling the tiny cables attached to the logic board.
