Mijn probleem

Of late, My Iphone 3gs had developed a problem of shuting down while I was on call or chatting. The phone would shut down even though the battery would still be around 70-80% charged. This started happening after I upgraded to IOS5 and thought this upgrade to be the reason behind the problem.

Mijn oplossing

I reset the phone "as new" couple of times but of no use. I called apple but they asked me to pay the sum almost equivalent to that of a new iphone 3gs in adition of this faulty phone so that they will replace it with a new one (3gs). So I had no choice but to find out the issue myself. After researching the web for about two weeks, I came across some blogs from the iphone users facing similar issue. I was surprised to know that this issue is being faced by users running their devices on IOS 4. And that the issue is related to some battery compatibility issue (not acknowledged by Apple till date) and replacing the battery resolves the issue. Almost all the users had ordered the battery from iFixit and after replacing the battery, the phones were working perfectly.

Mijn advies

I ordered a battery and went through the tutorials number of times to familiarise myself with the process. Finally, the shipment arrived but I was hesitant of opening my Iphone. But, since I had no choice, finally opened it. Followed the steps mentioned in the guide and everything worked fine till the last step, that is removing the battery from the back cover. Believe me, this is the hardest part in replacing the battery. It took me about 20-25 minutes for removing the battery and in the process I damaged the Spudger also but finally it came off. I replaced the battery and connected the cables in reverse order and the whole process was complete within 35-40 minutes. And guess what ? the phone was working. After two days I noticed that the earpiece was not working, I thought I had damaged something. After giving it a thought, reopened the Iphone and notices the "cable number 3" was loose. Fixed the cable and since then my device is workng like a new one and even it gets charged faster.

Thanks to all the bloggers for sharing their experience and iFixit for providing not only the tools but also the detailed process of repairing the devices. But, at the same time, it is disgusting that a company like Apple is not providing any suport to its users facing probleb with their expensive devices.

I appreciate Nokia. You may remember few years back Nokia had problem with one particular lot of the batteries. They delivered new batteries to the users through couried and for returning old/problematic batteries they had sent packing alongwith prepaid envelopes to the users. If Apple needs to survive, it needs to provide service to the users.
