Both adhesive strips broke - heat first with medical cold/hot wrap

Mijn probleem
Front glass of iPhone was popping off. I read that it was due to an expanding battery, so I opted to replace it.
Mijn oplossing
The repair was successful, but on my phone, as I attempted to remove the adhesive strips carefully, but both of the strips broke. Also my travel hairdryer was not strong enough to warm the glue.
Mijn advies
If I were to do it again, I'd try heating the back before attempting to remove the adhesives, so that the glue is softened first.
ALSO, since my hair dryer I have was not strong enough to heat the back, I used a cold/hot pad that I could heat in the microwave. Worked like a charm when the raw pad (without the cloth padding) was pressed against the back of the phone. I think that this is a better option than any hairdryer.
Oh, and sure enough, the old battery was puffed up like a balloon and all lumpy on the inside. Glass snapped back in place easily, although I'm sure that it is not as tight a closing, given that the glue between it and its frame was broken. But looks as good as new.
New battery doesn't give me the life that I'd hoped for, even though it is rated similar to the original, so my next step it to identify what software or setting is causing my phone to drain in less than a full day.
