Why I have a question mark in a folder when I start my Macbook?

enguerrandm -

Mijn probleem

I'm actually backpacker in Australia and I have the habits to take my Mac with me everywhere the thing is on a 4WD track it's not always a good idea. Little bit shaky for my computer even if its a Unibody MacBook Pro 13''.

One time after a long unseal road I lauched my laptop and a bad surprise appear, grey screen with a folder with a question mark on it!!! Try different stuff like lauch my computer with another exernal harddrive, of course that's work but the harddrive inside my computer doesn't existe anymore. I decided to open it and nothing wrong the harddrive works perfectly when you put it like an external harddrive. That's would be mean that's come from the Hard Drive Cable.

Mijn oplossing

Easy, after ordering the component on Ifixit I opened my computer again.

1 - As usual take care of where you open your mac

2 - Put the screws in a small box if you don't want to loose them (stupid but that's already happen to me one time :))

3 - Put away the old Hard Drive Cable :

> The big screws are easy to unscrew but becarful with the 2 small one close to the DVD player. (Not sure that's the good way but for me even if I had the perfect screw drive they were too resistant the I decide to cut the cable and moved it a little bit (right to left...) and that unstuck the screws)

3 - replace the component gently

4 - Close everything

Start your laptop and oh surprise that's works!!!!

Mijn advies

BE GENTLE WITH THE SCREWS :D
