Mijn probleem

A year ago I replaced the hard drive of my Macbook pro 13'' late 2011 with a SSD Crucial M550 (512). It worked perfectly for about 6 months and one day the SSD was not detected anymore.

I switched back the old hard drive, it worked but I also switched back to slowness .. painful.

Surprisingly the SSD worked externally using a USB connection. After some research on the web I found useful information about a faulty hard drive cable on this late 2011 macbook model.

Mijn oplossing

I bought a new cable on ifixit.

After replacing the cable, the SSD was back to work.

Combined with 16Gb of 1333 MHz of RAM (yes you can upgrade up to 16Gb even the specs from Apple limit the memory to 8Gb) my macbook is really fast.

Mijn advies

I wonder why the original hard drive cable "fried".

I used cheap power adapter and I could feel static electricity when touching the macbook.

Since the cable is stuck on the case, it might have damaged it.

The cable would still work with 3Gb SATA devices but wouldn't with 6Gb devices.

I won't try again, I bought a better power adapter.
