My screen on my 6 plus was shattered. Badly. I could see the camera and some ribbons cables as the broken glass chipped away piece by piece, day by day. I wanted to do it myself, as overwhelming as I thought it may be. I watched what felt like a hundred how to's, and read many articles and step by step walk through a, to the point where I felt confident I could do it myself--and I did, without watching a guide while actually doing the repair, but I totally recommend doing so.
The repair went smoothly, and quickly. I went from having a shattered black iPhone 6 plus to having a nice shiny new white one in probably around 25 minutes. But I wasn't done yet...
I ordered the screen with the whole proximity sensor, mic, ear piece, and front facing camera set up pre-installed, for ease of installation. I went to use Siri, and she couldn't hear me. I yelled at my phone and I could see the little line wiggle a little bit so I knew atleast a small amount of noise was going through. The mic isn't positioned properly. Furthermore, the ear piece doesn't allow me to hear someone speaking to me clearly, and loudly. I repositioned the microphone and it works like a charm now, but I can't say the same for the ear piece. I'm a little upset about that, but I guess I may have to open it for the 3rd time and replace it with my old one, or a new one.
My experience with ifixit has been relatively good. The shipping was extremely fast to Canada (although it costed $35 + $21 duties). I wish that my earpiece worked and that is about my only complaint. I recommend buying the tools. 10/10 would do again- especially if something is done about faulty parts that I got.
