I got the Yellow Light of Death on my 60gb reverse compatible PS3 with a disk of Fallout 3 stuck in it. It started just crashing after 20 minutes, then 10 minutes, then would not turn on. It would just beep with a green light, turn to yellow, then flash red for 5 minutes.
I got it all disassembled using the IFixit video before the kit arrived. Total of an hourand a half. The video could use a little more step by step for beginners, but the written guide mostly filled in the gaps. Also used some other videos. This took about another hour. Stripped the head of the very last motherboard screw and needed to cut a groove using a hack saw to get the crossthreading to release. But overall, very happy with IFixit.
It should also be said that you should clean extensively while you are in there-dust helped cause the problem, so there should be some direction on how to clean it out. Be careful cleaning with paper towel or Qtips -they can leave fuzz behind or get caught on solder. Qtip with a little strong alcohol worked well. STRONGLY SUGGEST not using microfiber clothes as they create static and get caught on everything. Draw a map to ID where each screw goes-I ended up with 2 extra ones, but it works, so w/e.
