Mijn probleem
Needed a new battery. Apple found corrosion in my phone and did not want to replace it under warranty.
Mijn oplossing
I successfully replaced the battery and my phone. Now is working like new. Opening the face of the phone was very scary, because it was made of glass. Since it was the first time, I did not know how much force to apply and where to hold properly. The toughest part was prying apart the battery from the case. It was glued tight. I used a hair drier to heat up the case a loosen the glue. Thanks to iFixit instructions I was able to change the battery. Also, thanks to the caution notes at every step.
Mijn advies
iFixit says the repair takes around a max of 15 minutes. This is for an experienced person who has done this repair many times. Since it was my first time, it took me around 2 hours to change it. Also, the battery is glued so tight and there is no easy way to get it out. You will end up using a lot a brute force to pry the battery out and chances of bricking your phone increases; since, is surrounded by delicate components. I suggest take it to Apple and pay the $90.00 for the repair if you want your phone back in working order. If Apple mess it up, they have to get you another one of the same kind. If you don't care if your phone to survive after the repair then get the iFixit kit. Also, would be nice if iFixit to add a mailer to send back the Lithium ion battery for recycling or instructions how to properly dispose it. I can't find any documentation in their website what to do with the battery. I don't want to just dump it into the garbage can. It contains toxic chemicals that pollutes the environment.
