Easy

Mijn probleem

The original HD that came with my 2010 MacBook Pro was a 320Gb SATA harddrive. Todays software and storage needs for a laptop really had outstripped the storage available, even putting a usb drive on it does not create a reasonable solution.

The build of the laptop really was exceptional so worth it to fix this storage issue.

I held off replacing the hard drive concerned about the effort and transition getting the OS and all my software back on the machine.

I saw the 1TB hard drive kit on Ifixit after the 5th search for a possible replacement and took the plunge

Mijn oplossing

The repair was quick (easy placement next to the battery certainly helped)

I followed the instructions on IFixIt and downloaded the new Apple OS, and created an install disk on a USB thumb drive (16 gb)

took out the old drive, installed the new drive.

put in the OS install thumb drive and restarted the laptop.

OS 10.5 went without an issue, did the usual process to get my apple account back on the harddrive, was asked (in the install update) if I had a stored or back up of my old system (applications, files and other docs)

put the old drive in the softcase and plugged it in.

1 hr later my laptop was up with all my music, photo files, applications and still 600GB available !!!!!

The soft body hhd case with usb plug was well worth it for that reason alone.

bottom line This is a very useful update for a stable laptop platform!

The 125gb solidstate partition impact on startup is very noticeable and a worthwhile improvement.

Mijn advies

Don't wait like I did. the laptop is really functional and with the Solid state partition it boots quickly, desktop pops open....!
