Mijn probleem
The two-year old iPhone 5 lost battery capacity and got hot during charging. In addition, its screen began to bulge outwards and got psychedelic background colors. From iFixit stories, we understood that the battery was due for replacement.
Mijn oplossing
Following the procedure given by iFixit, the fix was straightforward. All described problems were encountered but overcome. But one comment: The procedure mentioned that the battery was glued to the phone and some careful prying would be required. But you would not imagine how intensely hard our old battery stuck to the phone - most probably due to the glue being dried out from heat during charging. However, with a combination of good prying tools, strong finger muscles, thoughtful carefulness and quite a lot of patience - we struggled with this battery glue for almost an hour before the battery eventually came out - the fix was a success!
Mijn advies
Be careful and take your time with the old battery. Drag plastic tab, and pry where shown in iFixit procedure, and the battery glue will be defeated, gradually, slowly...!
