12oz Coffee & Cream + Macbook Air
An entire cup of coffee got spilled on my MacBook Air.
I actually took apart the entire interior except the keyboard & trackpad, but in the end, only the battery needed replacing. I rinsed all the logic board & SSD card in isopropyl alcohol and spot cleaned the rest of the coffee spots. After 48 hrs of drying time, I replaced everything and found the battery was dead, which was an easy replacement. Miraculously, everything, including all keys, are working perfectly.
Right after the big spill, I tipped the computer up on its front end (by the trackpad) in an attempt to drain the coffee out. It seemed the easiest way to prop it up I guess. After disassembly, I now know that doing so channelled all the coffee down toward the battery and I should have tip it the opposite way where there are vents in the back. However, that might have doused the logic board and other components, so maybe it would have been a bad move. I was lucky that I wasn't connected to external power; the instant the coffee hit the computer, it shut down.
Thanks iFixit! I couldn't have done it without you!
