The computer was overheating pretty bad and it was hard to watch video or even play a simple game without the computer shutting off.

I recommend taking your time, research the job before you start doing it, lay out all your tools, and feel prepared about what you are about to do. Made the process really easy and only ran into one problem that was easy to fix. I forgot to plug one thing in which caused an error but problem solving helped me find what the problem was. So take your time and most of all - have fun!
