Mijn probleem

Realized the back glass was broken, don't know how it happened, but it was. So I looked up what to do and found your site. Then I decided to also replace the dock connector because I when I used my phone I had to put the other person on speaker or they couldn't hear me. The sweet girl at the Apple store had told me the only solution was to replace the phone with the latest $$$ model.

Mijn oplossing

Replacing the back class was easy, although one of the screws was striped. I sent a question in, but then I found three solutions and between the three, I finally got that li'l bugger screw out. so while I had it open I went for it and followed the guide to replacing the dock connector. I had trouble understanding what part was what:

the battery

battery connector from the socket (what socket)

loudspeaker enclosure

pressure contact

speaker enclosure assembly

home button ribbon cable ZIF socket.

And that is where I got into trouble. Those ribbon cables and how to put them out of the way while I'm working. Was worried as to how delicate they were so apparently I didn't move the home button ribbon far enough out of the way and as soon as I moved the dock connector, the home button ribbon tore. So now I have placed my order for that.

Mijn advies

All in all it was a good experience. I am having to wait on the home button ribbon part, but I was able to do something I believed was difficult. Your instructions made it easy.

My suggestions:

1. maybe a picture with part names just for us idiots. the warning on working with the small parts such as ribbons; how far to pull out of the way or not pull. A picture of that small part.

2. instructions just say: To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order....well that's not necessarily true.

A. The new part doesn't have a retaining flap on the home button ribbon cable ZIF socket.

B. There are parts that have protective plastic covering (on the dock connector part and the back glass as well). Some of us may not realize where they all are and some may not even realize it needs to be removed.

Suggestion to an inexperienced person attempting the dock connector replacement or anything in that area of the phone: Before each step, check the step comment icon at the top right of each step. They will give you a heads up on problems and solutions before you make a mistake.
