Successful replacement of Inverter & Inverter Cable

Mijn probleem

The backlight in my late 2009 Macbook A1181 Penryn went out about a year ago. I bought a Macbook Air and have been using it ever since... but it has always bothered me that I have a perfectly good laptop but for the fact that I have to hold a flashlight to the screen it to see it. After doing some internet research, I came to the conclusion that 1) the problem was either the inverter or inverter cable and 2) using these fixit guides... I could replace it myself!.... NOTE: I DID REPLACE THE INVERTER AND CABLE... BUT IT DID NOT FIX MY BACKLIGHT ISSUE

Mijn oplossing

Everything went as directed... except my backlight did not start working at the end. On the bright side, my computer is still working but for the dark screen. All of the directions/suggestions on the guides were spot on. I did the repair over the weekend and was interrupted multiple times... meaning I have no idea how much time I spent. I do recommend having good light!

Mijn advies

Make sure you have the correct size of screw drivers and that they are magnatized... also having a separate magnet on standby in case you drop a screw is a good idea. Sometimes I had to study the picture to figure out exactly where they were working since I have NEVER opened a computer and dug into it's guts before :). I do recommend performing the repair in Good light. Finally, I did not use a spudger... I took the battery out with a butter knife and used a guitar pic when it came to removing the bezel around the screen... I don't recommend my methods but what did I have to lose?!... Although, since I'm female and have a light touch, it worked just fine for me!!

All in all, it's back to the drawing board for me. Do I go with display cable or replacing the entire LCD? Well.. If I am springing for the LCD, I think I will do both!!
