Mijn probleem
I dropped my iPhone and damaged the screen. There was no crack, but vertical bars would appear on the screen and there were areas irresponsive to touch. The iPhone was too old to be worth spending the $150 at the Apple Genius Bar just to get it operational. I decided that I either find a cheaper solution or just buy a new iPhone. By a friend's recommendation, I visited ifixit and saw that I could buy the part with the necessary tools for ~$70 (after adding tax and shipping.) It was a bit over what I was hoping for. It wasn't that I found the parts overly expensive. I just was hoping to pay less for an old iPhone. Finally, I decided that because I'd get the tools and get the experience of repairing my iPhone, it was worth it. So, for me, it was more about the experience.
Mijn oplossing
It went well. I thought the tools were good quality. It took me about an hour to do the whole replacement. It certainly was a delicate process and required my full attention.
Mijn advies
There is another version of the product I bought that also includes a home button and camera / sensor / ear piece. I should have bought that, but I hadn't paid enough attention when placing my order. It's only $10 more, and it would be well worth it. I had to remove the above-mentioned pieces, which are very delicate, from my old front panel to the new one. Not only did it quadruple the time I had to take to do the repair (I could have finished the whole process in 15 minutes had I bought the other product), I am sure with my tools and a lack of adhesive I can't have possibly placed those pieces completely right. I can see, for example, that the front facing camera isn't quite centered. But more to the point, I could have easily damaged the pieces while moving them. Bottom line, I recommend paying the extra $10. What you get for that is worth much more.
