iPad2 glass repair

Mijn probleem

Wife was at a track meet for my eldest daughter and someone knocked the iPad off her lap and it struck the concrete bleacher shattering the glass.

Mijn oplossing

Received the repair kit timely and went to work on the broken unit. I did not have very good luck with the iOpener to heat and remove the glass/adhesive so I switched to a low watt heat gun. The tools provided (excluding the heater) where very useful and I was able to get all the broken glass out. Heading back to the kit I removed the new digitized glass and found it had a crack in it and called iFixit support. The technician walked me through RMA and shipped a replacement unit that day. I'm still awaiting that replacement but should be a quick completion on arrival.

Mijn advies

Tell folks not to rush and take their time getting the adhesive warmed enough to get started. I torn the ribbon cable to the broken digitizer because I didn't let the glue lossen enough. Also recommend some adhesive remover or include in the kit, as there is a LOT of tack left on the frame post glass removal.
