Mijn probleem
My iPhone 5 is one of the early models (Sept 2012) that have a manufacturing defect on both battery & power button. Apple acknowledged the problem and has a free repair program. My phone qualified for both battery & power button repair programs. However, Apple customer service denied "free" service, because my phone has a cosmetic dent in the frame next to the audio jack. Cosmetic = 0.3mm dent !!! See picture. Apple would still do the repairs, only I had to pay $279 + tax. Thank you so much Apple!! I really appreciate your help, but no thanks! So I decided to do the repair myself and involve my 5year old daughter in the project. She was thrilled :)

I studied the guides & videos on iFixit.com several times. The information is spot on and the repair went great. The biggest issue was keeping organized and knowing each screw where it came from. The "Anti-Static Project Tray" helped loads. Overall, a very successful repair. Daughter was happy too to help daddy :)
Mijn advies
It was unclear to me wether the defective part was the power button itself, or the "Audio Control and Power Button Cable". The information on iFixit.com is also unclear saying 'it might be' the button or 'it might be' the cable. In fairness, you can't really know. So after replacing the power button, it sometimes worked and sometimes not. I then ordered and replaced the audio cable as well. This fixed the button fully. It now works every time and battery lasts about 2 days on average usage.
