Mijn probleem

A family member had recently upgraded to an iPhone 6 and passed their iPhone 5 down to me. The phone was only a few years old and in excellent condition but just didn't seem to hold a charge. I would fully charge it and over a period of a day in just standby mode it would drain the battery away till it shut down by the next day, the phone would also shut down around 15%.

So I knew without a doubt the phone would need a new battery to hold a charge again. After browsing the web and doing some research I came across a YouTube repair video that featured the iFixit kit. This kit seemed like the perfect deal and would have everything I'd need to do the repair myself so I gladly purchased one.

Mijn oplossing

The repair went off without a hitch, I had already seen the one video on YouTube and I also watched the repair video here on iFixit which was the most helpful between the two. The overall repair time was probably between 10-15 minutes and I had no issues throughout the repair.

Mijn advies

My advice for the repair is to get a small dish or something you can place the screws and plates inside of after removing them so you don't lose any. Also when trying to separate the screen from the base I suggest cleaning the screen and removing all grease from it before sticking the suction cup to it, and to get the suction cup positioned as close to the home button as possible. While lifting on the suction cup you should see the bottom of the screen lift some, gently insert your plastic opening tool below the home button and give it a gentle pry the screen should start to give way. Once you get the bottom to start coming apart I simply took the plastic opening tool while keeping tension on the suction cup and gently slid it around the screen and it came right apart for me. As the iFixit repair video shows I found it a huge help to disconnect the screen from the base and set it aside so you don't have to worry about damaging the connections. When you go to remove the battery it's definitely a pain with how tough that glue is, as shown in the iFixit video I used the 3 areas they mentioned to pry at. Once you've loosened it up some you should be able to pry in the upper right section with your plastic opening tool and while keeping your plastic opening tool pressed firmly against the battery gently push in an upward direction and you should start to hear/feel the battery separating from the glue.
