$25 to replace a battery vs. $200 to replace the phone

Samsung Galaxy S III Battery Replacement

Mijn probleem

When my phone battery stopped taking a charge I contacted Samsung/Verizon support who told me that my ONLY recourse was to replace the phone (since I still had 6 months on my contract). They specifically said it wasn't the battery. To make matters worse my own company's "support" person told me the same thing. Luckily I had previously gotten good, fair support from a local Verizon store who informed me that it was indeed most-likely just a battery issue. He and another techie colleague of mine recommended iFixit.

Mijn oplossing

The battery arrived in a couple of days and my phone has been working fine since then.

Mijn advies

NOTE of ADVICE - your phone company and service providers are ONLY INTERESTED IN SELLING NEW DEVICES AND ACCESSORIES. Their market strategy is for PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE so they do NOT care about fixing anything.

Ironically, replacing the battery also shed light on how cheaply made the charging devices are - 2 of my 3 charges were also junk and have been replaced.

Still, $25 for a battery, and $28 for a couple of chargers is a heckuva lot better than replacing the whole phone. What a waste!
