I purchased an iPhone 5 from a 3rd party re-seller for a discount due to the phone consistently dying at 40% battery left. Apple wanted $80+ to repair the battery. I found IFIXIT and immediately saw the value attempting the repair myself.
Getting the initial screen off after removing the two bottom screws was the hardest part. Once you find the right part to pry it comes off easily and there is a ton of tutorials. Once the screen was off the replacement was super easy. I strongly advise using a white cloth to do this repair on as the screws are very tiny and could be easily lost. The tools that come with the kit are magnetic tipped so you shouldn't lose a screw if your careful. The battery was identical to the OEM battery and fit perfectly. When I turned my phone on my screen initially came on but was not functional. It was my fault though. When I took it back apart I realized I hadn't secured one of the three screen cables completely. Once I had it back together the second time it worked perfectly. My phone battery that use to last me only a few hours will now last the whole entire day with regular use.
Perform this repair on a white cloth or towel so you don't lose any screws. Once your new battery is installed make use of optimizing your phone for battery saving. I consider my phone usage to be moderate to high throughout the day. I use my phone daily for business calls and social media usage. Before the repair my phone died in an hour or two. Now it lasts me all day plus some. I would rate the difficulty a 1/5.
