Mijn probleem

I was at Melbourne Airport working on my MBP as I waited for the plane to depart when it froze and shut itself down. Turning it back on, a grey folder with a question mark came up. I tried to restart it and the same result, grey folder and question mark. Searching google, it would appear that the hard drive had failed and I should back up my data immediately. Thinking this was so, I bought a replacement SSD hard drive and plugged it in, it could not be read and the puter was also telling me this brand new drive was failing! After some more digging, I found a possible reason, the hard drive cable itself has failed.

Mijn oplossing

So I ordered the replacement part and it came in no time, even to the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand! The iFixit walkthrough was great and I replaced the cable with no trouble at all. Guess what, it worked. The hard drive was not corrupt or failing, it was the cable in the end.

Mijn advies

I am not too sure why the hard drive cable failed, when it did, it threw an error that was not entirely true, a failing hard drive. Turned out to be a faulty cable. Now with two SSD drives I decided to replace my superdrive with the spare SSD, now I have 1T SSD storage in my MBP. I think it will last a couple more years still.
