Mijn probleem
Cracked screen of course
Mijn oplossing
The repair went well all the way until I tried to use the home button on the new display assembly only to find that it wouldn't depress, which made me depressed.
So I opened it up and the button would depress. Clicked it back in and it would work with needing to be depressed, but when I put the two case screws in it stopped working again.
So I took the Home button of the old assembly and put in on the new, reassembled and it worked! And now I'm the only person I know with a phone that matches any Tux (black assembly, white home button).
Mijn advies
I found the best way to remove the home button ribbon cable was with a razor blade or box cutter. Gotta be careful that the blade is aimed slightly down toward the display assembly and not up into the cable. Start in the middle between the two contacts, take one contact off, then the other. It's a strong adhesive for a delicate cable, but if you cut through the glue, you're home free. Or free of home (button).
