Mijn probleem
A friend of mine had a early 80GB PS3 model that had the infamous YLOD. He was going to throw it away so I bought it from him for $50.00 in an attempt to fix it using the iFixit repair guide. I figured if it didn't work it would at least be fun project to tear apart the PS3 and see how it ticks.
Mijn oplossing
The repair went great, the iFixit guide was very thorough with only a couple missed screws in the instructions which is obviously specific to my PS3 model. I would definitely recommend you getting a screw tray as there are a lot of screws to take out and you don't want to lose them or get them mixed up.
Mijn advies
I couldn't recommend the guide more. It enabled me to get a second PS3 for my bedroom for just under $100.00. I was originally just going to get a Sony Blu-ray player for my room, but thought it would be even better to get a PS3. Hopefully this fix will last. I would say if you are on the edge to give it a shot and if you take your time and pay particular attention to spreading the thermal compound correctly and evenly this should work for you too..
