Easy change of SuperDrive, but problems remain
Mijn probleem
I've got a MBP from 2006 (model A1150) that's been working like a dream for many years. Listening much to CDs though, finally the original optic drive wore down, to the point of totally refusing DVDs, starting to make noise when playing music CDs and finally not burning on any media.
Mijn oplossing
I ordered a SuperDrive which was used and apparently tested. No problems during the installation, the instructions were crystal clear. Many thanks for that.
However, having done the job, the new optic drive does play DVDs, music CDs don't make such noise (I do rip the ones I listen to most frequently to save the drive) – but many of my previously alright music CDRs are simply refused. And it still doesn't burn anything at all.
Mijn advies
I should have made a proper check of everything and got back to iFixit right away: now I initially thought it was a problem with the CDR brand, but with time I realised more and more of my previously OK music CDRs wouldn't play, and that brand new CDRs wouldn't be burned.
I got the stuff in mid-September and there's no excuse for me to write about it 2,5 months later, surely too late to ask for another drive! Because surely this can't depend on a faulty installation, can it, if everything apparently went fine?
I admit I've posted this experience among the successful ones simply for more publicity, or maybe hints.
Also I wasn't prepared to pay additional 44 euros (58 USD) customs fee, but I guess that's what happens when buying computer parts from abroad (I live in Italy). Doesn't happen with book purchases, ever. Luckily I had some extra cash that day.
