iPhone 4 Power & Lock Button Replacement

Mijn probleem

The iPhone 4 Power and lock button would not spring back. I gambled eight dollars to see if I could fix it with a new button. Plus I wanted to look inside.

Mijn oplossing

The guide was great. My work was shoddy. I got the phone apart and looked at the parts. The problem was that the button would not spring back into place, and could not travel far enough to activate the electrical contact on the cord. I hoped that the button was the source of the problem. The other option was the power cord. The button did not fix it. The existing cord still had spring on the electrical contact button. I reviewed the notes and searched on the site, and an alternative solution is to add material to the button so it is long enough to push the electrical contact. I glued a piece of plastic onto the back of the button and filed it down. However, I forced the button and then the aluminum bracket into place. This damaged the electrical contact on the power cord and cracked the bracket. The orange tape came off the contact and the small metal pieces that created the spring on the button separated. Gluing it in place stopped the spring from working.

Mijn advies

To repair the spring of the button, there are two solutions: 1) replace the power cord, 20 bucks plus shipping 2) build up the button with tape to push on the electrical contact. If you choose #2, use tape or something that can easily be removed. Do not force the aluminum bracket. Note that replacing the power cord does not appear to include the aluminum bracket or a piece or orange protective tape on the electrical contact.
