Good old iPod 4G Photo brought back to life!

Mijn probleem

This iPod was getting long in the tooth. The hard drive failed a while ago and I replaced it with a 32GB compact flash card (solid state, no more moving parts!). This change was awesome and I started using the machine more and more. It now became apparent that the battery is shot. At some point the old battery stopped accepting any charge at all. The iPod would not even boot up any more. iFixit to the rescue. I bought the new 900 mAh battery kit from iFixit and replaced the old battery with it. It worked great!

Mijn oplossing

The repair went as smoothly as could be expected. The included tools for opening the iPod case worked great. I am not a novice and have some other tools, so this made it easier. I opened this iPod (and others) many times prior to this repair, so it was not a big problem. The new battery fit perfectly and the machine powered right up and worked as expected.

Mijn advies

Have a T6 driver ready. It is not included in the kit and is pretty much necessary for the battery change. I bought one of those little hobby drivers that has one handle and three double sided torx inserts giving me six small torx driver bits including the T6. Cost about $10 and has paid for itself the first day I bought it.
