Bashed on the Queensboro Bridge, fixed like new in Sunnyside, Queens!

Mijn probleem

Due to an unfortunate circumstance (possible suicide jumper on the Queensboro Bridge.. who the police eventually saved), I had the rare opportunity to ride the bridge on the pavement rather than the separated bike-path. I filmed a video clip with my phone and put it in my shirt pocket. On the downhill I leaned forward to build speed and wouldn't you know it-my phone fell out and smashed the pavement at 30mph!

Still worked, but the front screen was shattered. Time for a replacement.

Mijn oplossing

The repair went incredibly smoothly. I've never done such a detailed repair before although I've always been into taking gadgets apart to see how they work from the inside out. I took my time and went very slowly pausing in the middle for a snack, so the total time was over a couple hours.

Mijn advies

I could not have done the repair without needle-point tweezers. These are not listed as a tool on the guide but I recommend buying them. They can grab screws and little parts, and keep you from touching things with your fingers.

Some people recommend gloves but I simply kept my bare hands very clean and dry with alcohol wipes and did not touch my face or anything else during the repair. If I did, I would wash up or open a new alcohol wipe. The wipes were also helpful for cleaning all metal contact points before reassembly, but remember do NOT clean the parts that "plug" onto the logic board.

To stay organized I printed out an iPhone screw template.
