10 - 30 minuten
My daughter's iphone 4S started to lose its charge quickly. I searched around. Apple want $75 for the battery replacement service. I could have gotten cheap 4S batteries on ebay for $5. But I also heard horror stories of these batteries bulging after awhile and eventually destroying the iphones. So I decided to go to a safer intermediate route via ifixit.
I read the instructions a few times and watched the youtube video a couple of times just to familiarize myself with the procedure. It WAS as easy as everyone described. IFIXIT kit provided everything. The complete transformation took less than 10 minutes. Now my daughter is now all smiles. Her life accessory - the iphone 4S will work all day again on a single charge.
This fix went so well that I have ordered another battery to proactively upgrade my wife's iphone 4S battery. If you are a DIY type of person, this procedure is a breeze. Don't be afraid. Even if you are not a DIY, the procedure is quite simple.
I used rubbing alcohol to clean the areas that I touched because I heard that oils from my fingers can cause interference. Why take a chance? If you are going to do something, go do it right. I also borrowed my wife's tweezers to help with handling the small parts.
Lastly, my only scare was that after the battery replacement, the iphone kept "searching" for a signal. It was stuck in that mode. I did read that this can happen to some iphone 4s if you disconnect the battery. I followed someone's smart advice here. I plugged the phone into my computer. Launched itunes. In about 30 seconds, the phone was working again. Thanks IFIXIT. Why pay Apple $75 for this? That's crazy for turning a few screws and popping a battery out.
