Well awhile back, I noticed that the left edge of my screen had begun to separate from my phone! As my battery had been getting very hot and losing it's charge faster and faster, I figured what I had was a swollen battery that had popped my screen right off!! This is not a new thing- the battery for my MacBook swelled twice!!
I ordered a battery kit from ifixit, and opened my phone up and found just what I thought! The guide was very very helpful, and they aren't kidding when they say be careful about those screws!! I dropped one and spent 10 min searching my carpet for it!! It took me a bit longer than I thought. The step where the front casing is removed that metal plate you remove first, it is hooked under a small ledge on the battery side, so once you take the screws out you have to tilt this metal piece and unhook it. I was very hesitant to apply much force as I did not want to break it, and it was not coming off because the swollen battery pinned the plate on that ledge! I found no instructions on what to do if your battery held this in place though and was left to my own devices to figure out how to pry it off (it does eventually pop off- if your battery is swollen, just keep trying). After that the rest went very smoothly and the new battery was in place in no time!
Just that if you have a swollen battery, the plate that you take off so you can unhook the front screen from the phone just needs to be finagled until you get it off...
