International Community Day is upon us! While iFixiters may consider every day a community day, on October 8th we all have an official occasion to celebrate the wonderful communities we’re a part of.
As the world quarantined in 2020, communities came together virtually to lift each other up, keeping connections alive, and spreading hope. Out of that turmoil, International Community Day (ICD) was born. Communities deserve way more than just a single day of celebration, but it’s still a beautiful focal point for our gratitude.
We are thankful to all of our fixers who have created and maintained this community that is at the forefront of repair, ready to help in any way they can. Be it by answering a question, creating a guide, translating the wonderful existing content, or sharing a repair story. By participating, this community helps to fight planned obsolescence by repurposing as much as we can.
Every guide you complete keeps e-waste out of landfills, helping preserve Earth’s finite resources. And every time you click that button at the end of the guide, you’re thanking your fellow community member for their efforts.
Our mission from the beginning has always been to teach everyone to fix everything—and for the last nineteen years, our community has been responsible for getting us there. Without your dedication and expertise, there is no way we could have developed this extensive library of repair guides that has helped hundreds of thousands of everyday folks fix their stuff.

Without you, we wouldn’t have a community to celebrate on this special day, but more importantly, we wouldn’t have carved such a significant path towards sustainable technology.
Of course, in the times before this formal ICD we at iFixit found ways to recognize and celebrate our community. We love shouting out the pillars of the iFixit community, signal boosting repair allies, and chatting with you all in person! Count on us to reach out on days that are special to you specifically, but on top of that, we invite you to join us in celebrating the iFixit community as a whole with this new official International Community Day started by Walkabout Media.
Online communities have always found ways to get the word out. That’s, quite literally, what they do. But, since lockdown, people who wouldn’t have ordinarily gravitated towards online communities, have found themselves thriving. Joining fulfilling communities has allowed people to discover more about themselves, and learn more about the things they like.
For us, today is about celebrating the ways repair has brought us together, and the ways we have advanced repair itself.
We hope you join us in celebrating how far we’ve come along! And for those of you who haven’t felt confident enough to share your repair wisdom, maybe today is the day to go on the Forum and add a bit of what you know to our shared space.
