  • The three-fan array comes out in one piece. It's held in place with six screws and connects to the logic board with spring contacts—no fussy cables to deal with!

  • The three tower fans pull cool air through the cheese-grater holes at the front, and push it across the logic board through the various heat sinks. Then the blower fan vacuums up the hot air and spits it out the back.

  • A few interesting things about this arrangement:

  • Most tower computers have dedicated fans for the CPU and GPU in addition to fans at the front & rear of the case. The Mac Pro just has front and rear fans, which supposedly provide enough cooling to keep it chill under stress.

  • Another thing most tower computers have: some sort of debris filter to get rid of particles in the air that the cooling fans pull in. Apple's engineers are on record saying they don't need that, but only time will tell how dusty these things get.

De reeks van drie ventilatoren komt er in één stuk uit. Het zit vast met zes schroeven vast en is verbonden met het logic board door middel van veercontacten - dus geen moeilijke kabels om mee te vechten.

De drie torenventilatoren trekken koude lucht door de kaasraspgaten aan de voorkant en duwen het langs het logic board en door de verschillende koellichamen. Dan verzamelt een blazer de hete lucht die aan de achterkant wordt weggevoerd.

Een aantal interessante dingen over deze opzet:

De meeste torencomputers hebben specifieke ventilatoren voor de CPU en de GPU plus nog extra ventilatoren aan de voor- en achterkant van de behuizing. De Mac Pro heeft alleen ventilatoren aan de voor- en achterkant, welke voldoende zou moeten koelen om het toestel fris te houden onder hoge druk.

Nog iets wat de meeste torencomputers hebben: een soort van stoffilter om de kleine deeltjes die in de lucht hangen te filteren en niet in de computer te laten komen. De Apple-technici menen dat ze dat niet nodig hebben, maar tijd zal leren hoe stoffig ook deze computer zal worden.
