The rear hatch did no longer open properly and, when opened, did not stay up. Replacing the lift supports resolved this issue.

This is to show how to replace the lift supports of the rear hatch. The hatch is quite heavy so use some sort of support or an assistant when changing the supports. the left and right strut are identically mounted. All steps apply to either side

Stap 1 Rear Hatch lift supports  ¶ 

Open the tail gate and either prop it up or use an assistant to hold it. The tail gate is heavy and will fall if not properly supported. Right tailgate lift support strut

Stap 2  ¶ 

The struts are fastened with T-40 Torx head bolts. Using a t-40 Torx driver to loosen the bolt The bolt does not remove from the strut. It is pressed in and will be replaced with the new strut

Stap 3  ¶ 

Completely loosen  the bolt securing the strut to the top of the tailgate with a T-40 driver. Replace the worn strut with a new one. On this vehicle both struts were replaced. This stopped the sagging of the tailgate
