Where can you buy these batteries to use as replacement? Thanks for a great tutorial :)
I suppose you’ve already found them over a year after your question, but for anybody new to this tutorial: they are easily found on websites such as Aliexpress or Ebay, since Ifixit unfortunately doesn't sell them.

What should be the voltage on the battery connector with disconnected battery. My measurement is 1,5V DC and is this ok?
I have 2 of these devices both with failing batteries. I contacted WakaWaka for replacement batteries and they offered to recycle the devices but couldn’t/wouldn’t supply the batteries or replace them as a service return. Although the idea of the WakaWaka Power is a sound proposition it is flawed and a few years down the line I find myself with two useless pieces of junk that I cannot replace the cells in, I can indeed strip them down as described but not purchase the cell to effect a repair. I will never buy products from them again and suggest everyone else does the same.
Can anyone point me towards the correct or direct replacement battery for the WakaWaka Power and Power+.
Hi there! You're explaination is super helpful, I'm only struggling to find a new battery.. I'm not that technical and I find it a bit difficult to know which size exactly and what I need to keep in mind. Do you maybe have the exact link of the one you bought?

I am still unable to source replacement battery packs for these devices. The batteries used to appear on AliExpress but for some time now I can’t find them, there are lots with dimensions close to them but not the exact size which needs to be 8mm x 50mm x 50mm and close or exact match of mah rating. Can anyone help?
Finally managed to get hold of the correct battery.
I found that using the Google search engine was impeding my search, eventually and quite by chance I used the DuckDuckGo browser and found the correct battery from YDL Battery in China. Good price, superb service and shipping.
The cell comes with the wrong plug but this is easily swapped over with the one from the redundant battery you are removing, either slip out the metallic ends and slip them into the plastic plug from the old battery or cut the old plug off and solder it on to the new battery cables having also cut that plug off, using heat shrink tubing to insulate the soldered joints. Make sure you get the polarity correct, it is marked on the WakaWaka pcb but also the old battery and plug are a pointer as to the correct layout.

Another point I’d like to add. If your WakaWaka solar panel starts to come away from the unit as if being levered off from the underneath, this is the lithium ion battery breaking down and expanding, if ignored and allowed to keep on expanding it could destroy your WakaWaka but secondly the battery could fail and cause a fire. One of my WakaWaka batteries had begun to fail in this way and once removed has now inflated to a golf ball sized balloon, I have placed it somewhere safe where it cannot start a fire.
This is a reminder that any item with a lithium ion battery could fail in this way, keeping items with these cells in tucked away in a drawer or cupboard could be a ticking timebomb.
