    • One of the earpieces of my Grind Wireless stopped working, i.e. it was silent. The other one was working as usual.

    • It turned out that this is easy to fix, even without taking anything apart.

    • If the first-try fix does not work, you will need a long needle or a paperclip.

    • It usually pays to think before starting, in this case it helped a lot:

    • I remembered that I had used the 3.5mm jack (aka "Klinkenstecker" in German) recently, before the problem occurred.

    • And this 3.5mm jack turned out to be the culprit!

    : stap 4, afbeelding 1 van 1
    • When a plug is inserted in the 3.5mm input jack, it breaks the connection from the amplifier to the speakers, in order to avoid interference or damage.

    • This is happening inside the jack: The inserted plug bends the contacts slightly, pushing them away from the contacts connected to the amplifier. I am holding the plug over the schematic diagram at the exact point to illustrate this. (Ann.: This schematic probably is not exact, but it is what I would expect it to look like.)

    • When the plug is removed from the jack, the contacts are supposed to go back into the original position, where they touch the contacts coming from the receiver. Obviously, for some reason, this does not always work, and they do not make the circuit, leaving the respective earpiece without an amplifier signal.

    • To notice when you are lucky, I recommend to connect the phones via Bluetooth and play some continuous music. Hold the headphones in front of you, and turn up the volume so that you can hear the music.

    • The goal is that - while you will be working - you can distinguish and instantly notice when the dead earpice comes back to live.

    • You can try to insert the plug in the jack and remove it again, maybe repeat a few times. If you are very lucky, this helps the contacts settle in the proper position and make the circuit. If it works, cheers – you are done! :-)

    • If it does not work after 3 or 4 times, I would not repeat it too often, it might make things worse. Maybe the other earpice stops working!

    • Read on!

    • We need to kind of "help" the contacts settle back at their position to touch the amplifier contact.

    • I managed to do this using a long needle to tickle the contacts a little bit, just enough to let them snap back and make the circuit.

    • Caution: These contacts are tiny and sensitive. So, be very careful not to bend them too much. You can easily ruin the jack or make things worse. So, be very careful, and do not apply force. It is just about gentle tickling.

    • What we want to do is not actually bend a contact towards the other. We rather want to poke it gently, and let it snap back to the proper position.

    • I hope you were lucky and both of your earpices are working again!

    • Maybe some contact spray could help as well, though I did not use any.

Thanks a bunch for this. My right earphone was out and was looking for a guide to show me how to dismantle them.

Literally put an aux cable in and out, and the headphone worked again. Noticed the sound seemed weaker than the other side, did it again, and it's all good now.

Great find on the jack getting stuck and fix for it.
