Pelouze PE5R Button Switch Cleaning

Inleiding

This digital scale has button switches that may be prone to flakiness due to contacts accumulating dirt. This guide shows how to disassemble the scale and clean the switch contacts.

Warning: This product uses thin stranded wire for power connections internally. These wires may fatigue and break as a result of manipulating the pieces of a disassembled scale, and if this happens repair will require wire stripping and soldering.

Stap 1 Remove Battery Box Screw

Remove the battery box cover on the underside of the scale.
Pull the battery cables and battery (if present) aside and use a Phillips #1 driver to remove the battery box screw.

Stap 2 Remove Platform

Rotate the square plastic platform on the top of the scale clockwise until it stops.
Lift the platform up and off, revealing the metal mounting plate pictured.

Stap 3 Release Case Clips

Ensure there is no power to the scale (battery and AC adapter are disconnected).
Using a plastic pry tool or slot-head screwdriver, separate the upper and lower case pieces by flexing the upper piece outward to free the clips on the lower piece.
Release the clips on all three sides of the scale. There are no clips on the side with the AC power connector.

Stap 4 Separate Case Halves

Free the AC power connector from its slot in the lower case and the black and white power wires from their guide posts (see picture).
Lift the upper case slightly and slide it far enough for the circuit board to clear the metal mounting plate on the lower case.
Separate the two case pieces as if opening a book.
It may be necessary to get more slack in the battery wires by feeding them further through the battery box.

Stap 5 Remove Board

The board is held in by four clips in the case. To reduce the likelihood that they break, a utility knife can be used to trim the clips so they don't need to be bent as far to clear the slots in the board.
Free the board by pulling it gently away from the case while bending the inner pair of clips toward the center of the scale.
When the board has cleared the inner clips, it can be slid out from under the outer clips.

Flip the board over onto the lower case as shown.
To the right of the LCD panel are the switches for the scale's buttons. Each is a piece of curved sheet metal that pops inside-out when pressed and makes contact between pads on the board.
The switches may be covered by a piece of tape as shown. Carefully remove the tape and the switch pieces.
Clean the switch contacts below using alcohol and a cloth or towel.

Stap 7 Reassembly

To reassemble the scale, follow the above steps in reverse.
When reattaching the board to the case, first slide it under the inner clips, and then press down and inward to engage the outer clips.
